Unable to get full context due to the paywall, but privatisation of university is arguably a significant factor in the corrosion of academic integrity. Unis admitting basically whoever can pay is more of a threat than the aspirations of people with low socioeconomic status.

How ever did education become a "low status field"? Politicians especially like to refer to education as the cause of, and potential solution to, so many problems. Is it related to the fact education was considered a women's job and women's work was undervalued?
