Because the POLICE, a public institution for ALL of the public, cannot have ties to groups which discriminates against members of the public? That's not madness. That's *sanity*.

There was no impingement on freedom association. The choir had ties to the local police service (carrying it's name). The police service is made up of men and women, so they requested that of the choir. The choir declined and changed their name.
