In teaching circles we call this "Action Research" in short it means doing science without the annoying standards of the Scientific Method.

I remember when some of the people I considered my worst K-12 teachers would repeat this stuff, it seemed silly to me, like it was almost a put down of those kids who could learn by hard work, memorization, as though they weren't above-average, just being catered to.

I don’t know what the above means. Could someone re-phrase it for a dummy?
