"The fact that someone did not intend to harass or discriminate is no defense to a complaint." Really. Intent doesn't matter at today's university. One of the most significant moral achievements of mankind casually overthrown. https://www.newcenter.ca/news/2018/3/3/acadia-university-and-the-weaponizing-of-administrative-absurdity-excess …

Intent doesn't matter in a lot of things, nor should it in some. I'm not nearly as versed as you on what's going on in today's universities so I will not argue this specific instance. But, to say that you have to judge intent in every case would definitely be wrong.

With all due respect that's rubbish. Almost globally you can still be convicted of, say, murder or manslaughter despite not intending to kill.

Rick Mehta's quest to inject "embattled" into discussion about himself via his bullshit on Twitter is exhausting.

Intent is meaningless when it comes to language. Words have definitions and are therefore singularly interpretted. Intent is litttle more than a vehicle to rewrite history when being accused. Words can be violent, and no matter the intent, violence is not ok.

But words aren't violent... yelling fire in a theater is against the law but saying theatres are fire traps isn't. Free speech should be totally free...if not it's up to interpretation, and then who gets to decide? Me? You? Ur Tweet hurt my feelings... should u be banned now?
