So a collection of bigoted, barbaric, fictional texts that were copied from Egyptian religions are fundamental to western civilization?

Whatever your opinion on the Bible, the answer is still yes.

Yes! I think you are able to side step the debate on whether the Bible belongs on a fiction or non-fiction shelf by asking us to consider what the text means in the first place. Moreover, that meaning was present prior to the enlightenment.

"I do not see in religion the mystery of the incarnation so much as the mystery of the social order. It introduces into the thought of heaven an idea of equalization, which saves the rich from being massacred by the poor." - Napoleon Bonapartepic.twitter.com/ci5H5WZ7wJ

"Religion is the opiate of the masses." - Karl Marx Note, opium at the time was used as a *pain killer* - so he was saying; 'religion is the anesthetic of the masses' - which is true; religion dulls the pain of an unfair world, and in so contributes to keeping the world unfair.
