The first schools in America, in the early 1880s, adopting the German style graduate @ fellowship programs based on the German Privatdozent were, Johns Hopkins & Columbia Universities & University of Chicago. Thereto, in an environment that embodied German/Hegellian scholarship.

And they are still fanatics of Hegel and his followers. Antiquated and nothing to with American Family Values, nor the philosophy or our Founders.

:) nope. prior to colonization lots of places - a lot more places - were doing just fine. not a good trade off - millions of deaths for some useful new ideas.
