Dr. Peterson, I don’t think you should assume too much about what UofTs lawyers told them. Consult a lawyer yourself. C-16 does not make misgendering a hate crime, discriminatory in some situations perhaps, but not criminal.

The criminal part applies to advocating hatred, or genocide. Misgendering will not be that. Also, there is an exemption for statements in the public interest, which should apply to your lectures.

Such an interesting time in the world. As much as I support an individual’s right to determine their own life and believe that others should respect that, because really what’s it to you? I don’t know that fear and smallmindedness constitute a “hate crime.”
