I can't get past Chomsky's early unwillingness to believe refugee tales of Cambodian atrocities in the late 70s. It still kinda sticks in the craw, and reveals more than I need to know about the man.

Chomsky is a better linguist than he is philosopher or political scientist.

Yeah, Chomsky's foreign policy positions aside (if you want to set them aside), he's been a very consistent critic of postmodern thinking for decades. Noam's twist: it's deadly in the third world especially:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjQA0e0UYzI …

Where's the validity in science as a firm of oppression?: "And the postmodern critique of scientific discourse as form of oppressive power is a serious one that needn't entail a wholesale rejection of science."
-
I guess postmodernists ironically prove it themselves. Publishing study after study of pure nonsense and ideological drivel in peer-reviewed journals *does* make science look bad.

"allows people to take a very radical stance… but to be completely dissociated from everything that’s happening.” - Always will the self awareness Noam.

He's mentioned Chomsky before with disdain for his position among the far Left. I'm surprised JBP posted something seemingly positive about Chomsky.
