I think, one accepts the assumption of existence of god because it caters to a therapeutic or an emotional need. A person who falls deeply in love with another person makes the lover more lovable. Similarly the believer uses all his skills to convince that the assumption is true.

I am a believer and I confirm that. I decided to have faith in God when I finally realized that I needed a tough and just yet loving God to lead and teach me how to be better than I was before. The need never ceases as well as the betterment..
