Citizens were never consulted about the immigration policies which the elites of the West have enacted. Much of the reason for the mass uncontrolled immigration is that the wealthy upper classes wanted to import cheap labor to increase profits.

This had the effect of undercutting wages for the middle and working classes of the West. Not to mention the fact that it meant that fewer jobs were available overall. One then has to consider how the elites of the West also encouraged companies to ship jobs overseas as well.
