People were much more polite back in the day when discussion boards posted your IP address. Trolls would get hacked or flooded off line. Netiquette advised you don't say anything you would not say face to face.

I have the upmost respect for you & your willingness to take so much heat. That said, some of us in business sector need to remain anon as to not lose customers/clients just because of our political views. It didn’t use to be so bad … but these days tribalism reigns supreme

Well if one's arguments do not stand on themselves but need a reputation or persona to take off, that be far worse than the anonymity. (Practical things like exposure and platform that come with say a career that help aside). That said i agree about the personal attacks.

I think it is fine, if their screen name is a clever homophone.
