Look up Operation AJAX/TPAJAX Project. I hope this turns out well for the Iranians, but I don't trust the news on this. While I would like to see the Iranians adopt a more enlightened government, I look at places like Libya, Iraq and Syria and worry about hidden players.

shah was a modern secular dictator. he suppressed freedom of speech which cut the conversations between different groups of people. this let to a divide between modern thinkers with government support and clergy backed by common people and that led to islamic revolution
