At CSULB most classes forbid at sort of taping or recording. Even audio. It's quite weird. If u r caught u can be expelled. Stupid right?

I actually could buy an intellectual property/cheating argument. Peterson wants to be a talking head and for that he needs as much publicity as possible. (ANd it's fine to be a talking head). If a prof just wants to teach a class THAT YOU PAY FOR then that's fine too.

In these times, if you can somehow fool yourself that someone somewhere is not taping you, then you need to wake up. Welcome to the digital and communications age.

If that logic held true, then any public servant could just refuse to be recorded, even if they're doing stuff they're not supposed to be doing.

How messed up must you be to think the professor's right to hold an unfilmed, biased class trumps her students' rights to an actual education

Indeed, many of his lectures about self-analysis and self-improvement over adversity are on video on the Internet. You might find many are helpful. You would have to get past your personal bias and bigotry first.

Great to see that Mr "Right of the Individual" insists that his protocol for class recording should be mandatory for all professors.

He is not denying the right to refuse to be recorded. He is talking about holding the value of the class as an open forum for enquiry.

I don't know the law in Canada, but in the states it's about expectation of privacy, one does not have that expectation when one is in public. I guess the question of whether a class is public is open for debate. I lean towards yes.

ESL students have taped my college English lit courses (for the obvious reason that they found it harder to keep up). Having myself taped improved my teaching, forcing me to be clearer+more concise. If you have substantive content, taping shouldn't be a problem.Put politics aside.
