Not getting the point here. So GDP is increasing astronomically. Who benefits? Not the working class, obviously.

Not sure about your country, but in my European country, the working class is able to purchase electronics that was unthinkable 50 years ago and exotic food that was locally unheard of 100 years ago. Add to this scifi-era healthcare and cheap(ish) flights to all over the world.

It does seem hard to accept an exponential GDP growth curve as a story of how the world is getting better gradually. Of course there are "multiple interpretations", e.g. involving the irreparable planetary harm done by fossil fuel combustion.

I would argue that workers today who produce most of the value are doing a considerable amount of work. Computer program developers e.g.

World GDP involves money, which essentially is composed of promissory notes. What needs to be done is to look at availability of energy and natural resources (what's economically affordable, not technically recoverable) vs. what the world population needs and wants.

Conservatives are so busy measuring human well being by material wealth that they ignore the fact that anxiety, depression, and suicide rates are higher in the first world. You just can't get conservatives to realize that the GDP isn't a perfect measure of human well being.
