No, that's not the case at all! First off, Nordic countries aren't "socialist". They are free market economies (hence: "Nordic capitalism") they sit at the top of the index for economic freedom for decades. See the heritage foundation for confirmation. http://www.heritage.org/index/

Included in this site is the path of humanity from 95% global poverty (just 200 years ago) to less than 10% now -with numerous times the population of the past - is one argument I use frequently in debates for capitalism. Socialism wasn't particularly helpful in that era either.
