I would agree that there is more understanding embedded in thousands of years of scripture than ONE guy trying to make sense of it. To say that you yourself understand the nature of this more isn’t a trivial statement. You should challenge him to a debate if you believe yourself

This is a fair expectation. The sensitive part of this field lies within the fact that it’s being approached from two different directions. Ideologically (scripture) and empirically (phenomena). Empirical study has been pushing into religion (Darwin, Galileo) for generations.

And because of this, it causes dispear and resentment within those who build their lives on ideals while maintaining willful blindness to empirical knowledge. Empirical knowledge trumps ideological knowledge absolutely.
