I read somewhere that diagnosis of ADHD in boys was more evidence of feminization in schools. That more active boys were being drugged to be more like properly behaved, calm girls. I believe that too.

Maybe, but in today's society, there is a suite of ineffective adolescent and adult behaviours that improve or are temporarily ameliorated clinically in patients using psycho-stimulants. Ergo, improved functioning by any measure in a patient population that is easily identified.

As per the five-factor model of trait personality, conscientiousness is the 2nd best marker of life success next to IQ. Psycho-stims meds temporarily increase industriousness/productivity in a stat. significant population. That's why these drugs are popular and effective.

My kid's in 5th grade and has never had more than 1 recess a day. On top of that it's the 1st thing they take away when punishing. Even tho my kids a girl she is more active like a boy. We've only had one teacher who understood that kids need to release energy.

Limited resources are always a problem. Perhaps the disruptive kids need more one-on-one time and that's not an option..... so when a disorderly child is interfering with the entire class/group only so many options are available. Choosing the least of evils can be a virtue.

What does it mean when we label a high % of populations as abnormal whether it is hypertension, ADD, depression, heart disease, or diabetes? Is “medicated” becoming the new normal?
