And since we let the standard be set by the recipient (who can sometimes even change their mind retroactively!!) this makes approaching anyone a HUGELY risky proposition. But at least no one is getting unwanted advances anymore I guess? Heaven forbid they have to turn people down

As an Italian American, I worry about what's going on with all this stuff. I'm female so have less to worry about (for now), but I'm the touchy-feely type - which is weird enough in a WASP-based culture - and can imagine how "Italianness" can be misconstrued.

I gotta say, none of those constitute actual harassment. The hallmark of harassment is a range of acts being repeated despite knowing it is unwelcome, in a way that interferes with the victim's ability to carry out important tasks or to have peace of mind.
