40k price tag is what I had coming out of a small university in Louisiana. Paid it off last year. Graduated 2014 and make about the same pay as I did when I graduated.

This new Republican tax plan in the states would make it practically economically infeasible to earn a PhD. It's absurd. They're continuously artificially inflating the $ value of something that is consistently decreasing in practical value.

Hell my mother was an elementary school teacher for decades and retired with a full pension several years ago. From about the 90's onward she actively discouraged those who asked her about going into the field. Cited all the myriad reasons the job got worse every year.

As bad as the administration and institution was itself what clearly really killed her was that the kids were arriving dumber, more damaged and more immigrant each year. That she was expected to work miracles, sincerely wanted to work miracles, but understood she couldn't.

Yes but, what about redeeming it? Invade it, change it. The new conquest of the right against the relentless and stultifying incursion of the wrong? A $2 library fine will get you a lot of books, but if the Uni goes, are we not in deeper trouble? Esp. if Humanities die.
