Most of the time these studies just put them in the room for half an hour and record the observation. It's not thorough, or double blind.

Over time, sure, but there can't still be hold outs in terms of social progress? It wasn't all that long ago that they couldn't vote.

To discount a cultural influence seems hasty to me. I would think one informs the other and changes over time due to lack of necessity.
