History is important, but it also may give the impression that we don't live in a soviet-style regulatory dystopia already.

Well, seems to me that the focus on pharmacology of the 50s-60s was far more disruptive than study of history.

US Government spends trillions fighting "drugs", not enforcing one concept of history.

People are allowed diverse historical views, not allowed diverse pharmacology.

If issue is control of thought/politics through coercion/exile, drug war is far more apropos than soviet/chinese history, imo

I could see the value if the idea is that we're trapped in some sort of refined gulag, and we don't even know it.
