Part of the issue is some terms (like emotional intelligence) are colloquial categorizations used to describe other concepts. So, someone's level of empathy, tact, and pro-social behavior gets termed "emotional intelligence" when it's actually multiple personality factors.

Maslow, to me, gave us the basic foundation we can resort to in need of restart. Human life- To be slowly built upon with or without bias and attachments- yet is grounded in physics and known minimum requirements for biological sustainment; consistently w/decent flexibility.
