My 1st grade class had 100 children. It was a Catholic school. Everyone learned to read, parents were usually uninvolved. Nuns taught us for free. I wonder why we succeeded and other schools didn't.

Nuns didn't teach you for free. They were compensated with room and board. And we don't know what your definition of "success," is for all 100. Do you have data on 99 kids you were in first grade with? Doubt they are all even alive.

always remember: There are exceptions to the rule. You should NEVER, EVER take the exception and make it the rule. He didn't make it solely on his determination and drive. He got lucky. Don't act as if everything was possible or the system is just. It's a lie!

The article is acting as if broken homes were the root cause of the gender gap in education and the main problem for failure in college. While actually the root cause for broken homes very often is poverty - & there are plenty of reasons for the gender gap that he's not touching.
