Why do people believe you when you say anybody has the potential to have acted as any Nazi ever did, given the circumstances? Why do they not believe? (Maybe, they have seen friends at the grocery store, and know neighbors who slam doors.) Where do I get a t-shirt?

Simple: there isn't a magic evil gene that props up wherever bad things happen. Those people, who did those things, were ordinary people who voluntarily went down a path towards evil. And most people around them are ordinary people, and may well go down the same path.
