It appears the Corporations and the government enabled and empowered this mob. The bigger question is for what purpose?

Corporations do gain benefits. By acting as allies of the woke they earn some brownie points and continue serving a large young population. The wokes are just against them theoretically because it seems cool, otherwise they too are regular happy customers of the same system.
