This was a tremendously difficult episode. I’m still haunted by all the times where I have not been kind. Each event is a stab at the soul. Listening to his story was hard as I was deployed doing ISR and shooting people, when all that was happening to him.

You suggest to see oneself as the concentration camp guard. That for me is not hard to imagine. I remember distinctly wanting to find someone to punish and being willing to go to just about any length to do so. That mindset was endemic.
