Most people manage just fine day to day without reference to Bible stories though. And where is God in all this, most Christians seem to have accepted they have no need for him to exist... Which makes the Bible a bunch of fairy stories.

Heroic moral stories huh. Why would one need religion for that? There are plenty of books out there. For starters, the Chicken soup series is a good example and they're based on real people & not mythologies.
"Why would one need religion for that?" I'd say all people have religious instincts. All are worshipers. Some adhere to religion in a traditional understanding of it. Others replace God by other things that they bet their lives on and from which they draw life meaning.
I actually believe God exists and Jesus Ressurected. Just wanted to say it because I feel like the elephant in the corner w/ these debates b/w atheists and liberal theologians
