When you're 17, this kind of social comparison is appropriate - to some degree. When you're 30, your life is idiosyncratic. It's multidimensional and unlike anybody else's. So it's not reasonable to compare yourself. You only see one dimension. You don't have the whole picture.pic.twitter.com/qo1MepS8Di

The same thing happened to me, it just kinda "clicked" with me one day and I was like "why do I compare myself to everyone?" and I could never come up with a satisfying answer.

Instagram made sure that people WILL compare themselves with others fictional achievements which are presented at social media.

Always love understanding your great perspectives, however wondering why have you not invested your brilliant intellect on changing aspects of merging cultures & religions; you always base on strength of Christian philosophy not the others, though Abrahamic cultures are in series

Love your story about Elon Musk's roommate. During my time of writing my Bachelor's thesis I feel so small and unprofessional but just half a year ago I found it hard to believe I would make it this far. It's excellent advice but hard to internalize.

I understand the sentiment, but I'm actually motivated by seeing what others have done, especially those around my age. I'm not necessarily competitive with them, I just use them as a benchmark. I understand they may have had privileges (or luck) that I didn't. Unhealthy of me?

It doesn't sound like it's been particularly harmful to you, but why focus on those around your age? I wonder if it might be more helpful to look for successful people of any age to emulate/be motivated by.
