Social constructs and "real" categories aren't mutually exclusive. 'Real' is just a validation buzzword without solid meaning. I can say social constructs are just as "real" as biological categorizations. Using a semantic lense would help you understand this

If mass, space, time, heat (and possibly consciousness per Penrose) etc are outcomes of the quantum field then you could say nothing is real. But we’ve baseline social axioms for physical world that’ve been accepted for 100s of years. Any changes beg question of intent.
