Is the relationship between familial SES and student achievement causal? This analysis suggests not:https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/13803611.2021.1968442 …

It's interesting to do this with lead exposure --> IQ too. Attention of relationship when confounders included.

I am a primary school teacher and have a number of low socio economic kids from India. They out perform ALL the other kids .

My father was in that same situation this year and I can say that's true. Some low SES kids are great students

Thats completely disregarding the resources that the poor dont have access to that the rich and middle class have easy access to. A resource like food, for example.pic.twitter.com/78yFP4efux

No... that is totally taking that into account as it's derived from socioeconomical status. What it says is that it correlates more with parental and student abilities. Smart and capable parents generate better performing students even if poor.

Socio-economic status is one dimension. Where one lives and what the familial culture is like (related to but not directly synonymous with SES) could be a few other overlays to consider in brain development. I can see a poor but tight-knit family’s kids doing ok, despite low SES.
