Australians (and perhaps all in the west): are you being asked to choose between the dangers of a police state vs the dangers of Covid? I would certainly prefer the relatively low risk of the latter to the increasingly unpleasant certainty of the former) opinion, @JohnAndersonAO

It's not binary. There are confounding factors that contribute to this equation. Namely vaccine hesitancy.

When did you get so dramatic? Telling people to get vaxed is similar to creating a new law in order to protect society. It is nothing like a police state.

He explicitly addresses Australia. Would you not call them a police state at the moment?

It's interesting to see how people willingly invite tyranny into their lives.

Australian here. I would much rather have the disease than live under these lockdowns. Most family and friends have said they are more afraid of the government and their response, than COVID.

So you finally got into thos topic. I am from the eastern Europe and no, nobody asked me. Though, 30 years later, things seem to be moving back where they used to be.

Eastern Europe as well. So much of what I'm sharing about our past in Communism seems to be disregarded by most of those who know only democracy as a possibility for their country. The signs are so strikingly similar, it would not be wise to simply dismiss. At least get the info.
