The first single day time loop story was published in the 1941 short story Doubled and Redoubled by Malcolm Jameson. But if you mean TV, The Twilight Zone was first in the 1959 episode The Shadow Play. It's a really popular trope in Japanese media, starting in the 60s.

I remember playing Star Ocean 3 for the first time years ago when they had the story twist that the games were all inside an mmorpg from a high tech society that was going to be shut down. It was interesting as a concept but arguably a bad decision for that fantasy scifi series.
