"without functional criteria to [...] of possible sequences" = without well defined criteria for a search through all possible events , "random [...] doomed" doomed for what? It's hard to understand the sentence if he doesn't define the meaning of doomed in this context.

It is semantics I think, and perhaps ontology Intuitively I disagree with his ontology allthough I cannot prove it - I think he poses the existence of a supernatural mind, which is not a definition of God to be found in the bible in my view
