I'll need a primer of what the Libet experiment is/was. Thanks. :)

Basically, Libet's experiments suggest that neural activity for the motor action of pushing a button preceded conscious decision to push a button - supporting determinism. As a determinist, I have never found Libet's Readiness Potential necessary to support my view.

So there might be "ghost in the machine", something we individually experience as "I", steering in the currents of time after all. If we ever get how consciousness works, I bet we'll be awed by that knowledge.

This whole conversation is beyond my IQ and yet will remain highly interesting in so many ways. But when IQ is irrelevant to interest.... I can only assume the ghost of RP tickled my free will and motivated my consciousness into becoming more interested... That's my conclusion.

the paradox of free will is so delicious and will never be satisfied for everyone because it's experiential. until you can escape the trap of your own mind and experience pure consciousness you will live in a world with the illusion of free will

To assume consciousness is solely a matter of the brain is a reductionist point of view. The phenomenon we call consciousness remains a mystery. It is probably impossible to prove free will exist, therefore I choose to believe it does, given its proven psychological benefit.

There is benefit in believing it doesn't exist also though
