You might object: “Why should I shoulder all that burden? It is nothing but sacrifice, hardship, and trouble.” But what makes you so sure you do not want something heavy to carry? You positively need to be occupied with something weighty, deep, profound, and difficult.

Boxing gave me an appreciation of hardship for its own sake. I may not be near the level of most opponents but any punch I throw that lands or that I avoid is something to take pride in. Lessons from the gym apply to life outside it. It is a hard sport but also rewarding.

If you apply that to work, it suggests you need to take on more responsibility. But that comes with compromises you and your family must pay the price for.
