"I think that training to fail effectively, namely, to find that the thing you were trying to show was wrong. But nevertheless, the process by which you discovered that is very useful and could be useful somewhere else." - @LKrauss1 Recorded on May 7th. https://youtu.be/SF_SwujfiYk pic.twitter.com/PjxjrA6pa6

Failure is not an option. It's a requirement.

What about those of us who escaped poverty and familial dysfunction through STEM by being perfectionists, only to have it come back to bite us in the end for these very reasons?

The difference between the Successful Person and the Failure, is that the Successful Person has failed more times than the Failure.

Aka trial and error, the scientific method, etc. Centuries old. Nothing new under the sun. As to science, we've got a few too many charlatans today, who put science on a pedestal only when the data backs them up.

Or in Krauss' case, just make up stuff and never acknowledge the fundamental incoherence of the entire thing, then you never fail!

Thank you for the very interesting conversation! I heard @LKrauss1 say that education should be centred on questions not answers (why not both?). I wonder how rich a novice’s questions can be? Ought Education not be centred on intellectual risk taking (courageous curiosity)?

Sometimes just nothing works. There are people who die in poverty no matter how many different solutions they try.
