Getting rid of the predictors will favor the elites in the name of helping minorities. Their kids will be able to slip in the back door without anyone noticing when the GRE is gone. Schools will not be docked for the lowered scored donor's kids.

They’ll just end up passing everybody, making the graduate degrees as meaningless as they’ve made bachelors degrees.

The point of getting rid of the GRE or the SAT or any other metric is to allow the powers that be unfettered rein in using whatever demographic they choose. They are already trying to redefine success and conscientiousness.

Anecdote: I did well on the GRE. But I’m a neurotic test taker such that I can difeq alright but get tripped up by basic math. Also, can write 35 page Heidegger thesis but get bad grades on the GRE quick essays. Generally, the test was accurate, but particularly it wasn’t.

My issue with the GRE is that it is designed in a way that makes it necessary to study for the exam itself. It is not a test of what skills you acquired during undergrad or representative of your performance academically.
