I think we should evaluate scientific contributions based on their intellectual merit, but also their ethical merit. There is so much more that is possible in the biological sciences, but whether or not it should be done and what future consequences are, should be considered.

Agreed, but both political extremes are illiberal and you only demonise the left. Having been rejected by the left, you embrace the right, yet the extreme right is by far the bigger current threat. Given power, they will create an ignorant fascist theocracy. Reject both extremes.
