Honestly, the Chinese culture - and weltgeist - comes across, at least beneath the surface, as deeply perennial. I see very little difference between the China of Shi Huangdi and that of Xi Huangdi, other than the communist overlay of the current dynasty.

Where the Promethean yearns to be free, the Sinite DEMANDS to be ruled. Liberty and the individual’s self-determined freedom of Will is the ultimate desire of Western Man. As for the Chinese, strict, legalistic hierarchy gives them a sense of purpose, as per their culture’s soul.
