My observation is that if there is a tight relationship and one party is betrayed by the other (falling in love with another person), it's almost always irreconcilable.

I've helped people try and struggle through that on both sides of the issue. The person who was betrayed and the person who did the betrayal.

I have seen people grow up and not do it again. And this was in situations where their partner didn't know. In a couple of those situations, it seemed that it might even be described as a necessary experience for the person who did it. It helped them develop.

However, I think society works better, all things considered, when you make a promise. And you stick to it. One of the things I learned from reading Jung was that there are things in a marriage that you can't have unless you're all in. I believe that.

If there's a back door open, to begin with, or a back door opens, then I think there's something about the relationship that's lacking at least. I think you pay a huge price for that.

And many times the person doing the betraying does it out of self-saboatage because they don't believe they deserve what they have, the are uncomfortable with success, or they can't handle upcoming difficult discussions, so they implode the relationship as an escape.

That's actually a good way to end a relationship all things considered. The fact someone is "able" to just implode their relationship just makes me think that there weren't very many things holding it together, like kids, income, government marriage.

Well... As the saying goes, "Fool Me Once, Shame on You. Fool me twice, shame on me!!" Though the consequences of the incidence of betrayal will weigh more on my mind that the incidence itself.

There's a huge cost associated with not knowing how things work on both sides of the street or maintaining all the agency and responsibilities belong on the other side. If your trust was built on a notion of fantasy it will never recover.pic.twitter.com/mPkYIujVWk

It seems inevitable that no relationships are perfect so it's likely that at some point people will be better off separating. Forcing people together against one or both of their wills seems likely to lead to a worse situation for both of them. Hence the rate of domestic abuse

Some people will use your truth as ammunition against you and hold on to it forever. I think you always want to show you are ready to leave any situation so nobody can hold you hostage with manipulation or emotional blackmail
