However, I think society works better, all things considered, when you make a promise. And you stick to it. One of the things I learned from reading Jung was that there are things in a marriage that you can't have unless you're all in. I believe that.

If there's a back door open, to begin with, or a back door opens, then I think there's something about the relationship that's lacking at least. I think you pay a huge price for that.

Marriage is a two way street that requires commitment, forgiveness, admitting when you're wrong, saying how you feel truthfully, no lies of omission or ascension. My therapist, who also studied Jung, helped me believe in me, and my courage in therapy improved my marriage

Can someone say something true and fail themselves to live up to it? What kind of criticism is that? “This guy failed to live up to the advice he gives others! The advice must be bullshit” or you know.. people are fallible

I believe - commitment - is more suitable term. You commit, and you stand for it. However, choose carefully your promise / commitment. Vision, goals, ethic / values, perseverance, fortitude. Mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, financial. Equation it is.
