I studied predictors of learning/ productive competence for decades. General cognitive ability (assessed by SAT, LSAT, GRE etc.) is the least bad of all predictors we know, followed by trait conscientiousness. The literature is clear. Every other selection method is more biased.https://twitter.com/sullydish/status/1393985182810660864 …

Why SAT, LSAT, and GRE and not WAIS, Stanford-Binet, and Raven APM?

Exactly. While affluent students do have more access to test prep services, standardized testing is still the most objective educational assessment, and gives underprivileged students a chance to prove themselves. Many countries like India, Japan, Iran, etc. rely on it entirely.

But the whole point is that those who criticise these assessments is that they want more biased methods. They’re against merit, not just the assessment of it.

Wonder if the same is true about bar exams since some used the virus as an excuse to dispense with it because it "does not predict competence."

The problem now lies in the endless number of tests to evaluate teachers before these standard tests. It is overwhelming compared to 25 years ago. And the Varsity Blues investigation showed the power of money...

Standartzation and objectivity are meant to be non biased it makes no sense that people allegedly fighting against bias wnat to ban those.
