Let's keep connecting things to networks. Like I need my fridge connected. Then hire the the biggest morons in IT to manage it, and slash the IT budget to almost nothing. What could go wrong

Amen! I see commercials for “smart” houses full of “smart” gadgets and appliances, and I’m thinking why the hell do I want every single thing I depend on spying on me and being open to hacks!?!? At some point our laziness will be our undoing!

I think you are jumping to conclusions. Both management structures and IT departments are full of people, and if one thing is known for certain it is that people frequently make very dumb decisions.
