dont know if this is in intvw, but i quibble with standard def of sacrifice as "giving up something to attain something of higher value".. that sounds like transaction.. wouldnt sacrifice be more: purposefully giving up something of great value in order to get nothing in return?

I see what you’re saying. The standard definition can seem manipulative or insincere. I would say that deliberately giving up something of high value without expecting anything in return is a good definition of a gift.
