Most jobs are not meritocratic to begin with because most people could do it with training. That creates the problem that abilities do not define your position anymore. This game now becomes who can gain more political points

Or here's an even better example. Would anyone argue Justin Trudeau made it to prime minister based on merit alone? If the same guy came from humble roots would he have been as successful?
