The problem with this analysis is twofold. First, it only focuses on habitat destruction. In the US, carbon emissions increase with wealth as the wealthy fly a LOT more than the poor.

Second, it ignores how wealthy countries "export" their environmental degradation by importing products that require environmental degradation to make.
