It's probably because of the enlightenment that the west was largely able to abolish slavery and slowly give people equal rights.

Some people (leftists) think there exists a magic wand and one spell (voting them in power) everything will be alright. Social changes takes decades and sometimes centuries. If you try to force a 'change' there will be civil disturbance.

How ridiculous. Slavery, genocide, subjugation were in plentiful supply before the enlightenment. It's part of our Sapiens nature. Only through the enlightenment did we figure out that we could rise above this part of our flawed nature. Christians would argue they always knew.
