Not since Cyrus the Great of the Persian Empire has any political entity of significance moved to abolish slavery. As soon as the Enlightenment took place, and the gears started to shift that it’s ideological benefits be extended to all, was slavery abolished by it’s proponents.

Age of Enlightenment starts in 1687. A mere 150 years later slavery is abolished in parts of the British Empire. That is a pretty weak correlation Slaves imported from Africa: 1576-1600: 100k 1676-1700: 700k 1776-1800: 2M Quite a steepening of the curve!
