In 1958, 45% of white Americans said that they would ”maybe” or ”definitely” move if a black family moved in next door. That number fell to just 2% in 1997. https://www.humanprogress.org/america-is-relatively-safe-and-tolerant/ …

Poll seems like nonsense. More likely that more people are scared to talk about race in 2021, so they would never admit biases, which are natural.

If you are scared to admit your biases and don't express them, it means that objectively, Racism has declined. This poll does make sense.

Possibly lying in 1997 to not be labeled racist? In 1958 it was OK to be openly racist...just saying. I think racism is overblown but the wealth disparities are undeniable. Poverty and crime have plagued the black community as a direct consequence of slavery.

Curious if they ever did a study of non whites wanting whites in their neighborhoods. I remember going into non white neighborhoods in Toronto, or reservations and I can tell you I wasn't treated with open arms in the 90s and early 2000s.

Looks like they did do this: "The survey found that 6 percent of Americans were opposed to racially different neighbors. This number, however, includes not only whites opposed to black neighbors, but also blacks opposed to white neighbors, etc."

I have a black family that lives right next to me. I'm not moving because they're friendly and they're quiet, but I did recently move out of a predominantly black neighborhood because people were loud with their music and didn't take care of their properties or the Neighborhood.

I just like living around decent people. I imagine a lot of people will move for the same reasons; not because of the color of someone's skin.
