I don’t think monotheism is superior to polytheism in any absolute sense, but it probably helps a lot with social cohesion - so the findings outlined in this article make perfect sense.

Psychologically, monotheists don’t behave too differently from polytheists in that monotheists always defer to authority of their prophet(s) — arguably, exposition of prophetic writings is just as much “ritual worship” as any polytheistic ritual worship. Etc. /1

Well don't most of the big technological advances come from hard times like war ? I'm not sure that's entirely link to your comment, but I guess that is a bit of a nuance isn't it? Something like : through hard times we use tried systems wich through we evolve?
